Job Description

What is the opportunity?

The Enterprise Chief Controls Office (ECCO) is a first line of defense group, centralized across the Enterprise with a Global Mandate to embed a culture of risk ownership and operational excellence by elevating the control environment and driving consistency and quality of risk practices to minimize loss and regulatory sanction, drive cost efficiencies, and accelerate execution to enable growth.

The Enterprise Control Testing (ECT) team serves as RBC's central control testing function, acting on behalf of the 1LOD (first line of defense) Control Owner, and is responsible for performing control assurance activities in accordance with RBC's Internal Controls Testing Policy and Standards (ICMP and ICMS).

What will you do?

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Manager, Data and Planning to lead ECT's data analytics, reporting, and capacity planning initiatives. This role partners closely with ECT leadership, testing teams, ECCO stakeholders, Technology & Operations (T&O), and the Chief Data Office to design scalable data systems, deliver enterprise-level insights, and optimize workforce planning to support operational excellence and strategic decision-making. Key responsibilities include:

Data Reporting & Oversight

  • Develop and deliver management reports and automated dashboards (using tools like Tableau) to enable real-time insights and executive oversight.
  • Support monthly business reviews, test planning, and SLA reviews through data-driven storytelling for leadership (e.g., Board/Committee updates).
  • Partner with Platform teams, ECCO, and 2LOD to address enterprise-wide reporting needs and management queries.
  • Provide data analysis and insights to support strategy development, identify control trends, and enable performance management.
  • Serve as a data subject matter expert (SME), providing guidance to ECT and ECCO teams on data insights and analytical approaches.
  • Manage and enhance ECT data systems/infrastructure, including building data feeds, connections, and repositories (e.g. data warehouse/lakes).

Capacity Planning

  • Execute staffing models to estimate capacity availability across teams and geographies; translate testing attributes into staffing model assumptions.
  • Track productivity/capacity data, identify trends, and proactively inform testing leaders of potential challenges.
  • Forecast near/medium-term testing volume and support operations leaders in developing and managing test plans.
  • Develop creative solutions in partnership with testing leaders to match work demand with staffing supply and balance workload.
  • Support the selection and implementation of workflow tools to enhance resource deployment and team efficiency.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of planning processes and capabilities.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • 5+ years of work experience in data analytics, reporting, business intelligence, capacity planning, or related roles within a large, complex organization.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with:
    • SQL (complex querying, data transformation, integration with other tools)
    • Python (data cleaning, preprocessing, transformation, scripting)
    • Tableau (dashboard development, executive reporting)
  • Experience working with enterprise databases and large-scale data platforms.
  • Proven ability to translate business questions into analytical solutions and actionable insights.
  • Familiarity with operational risk management (first and/or second line of defense capacities) and/or experience in an operations environment supporting multiple business units.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver on competing priorities and manage timelines and expectations to ensure timely execution.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to tailor messaging for various levels of seniority.
  • Experience managing diverse stakeholders; strong negotiation and influencing skills in a matrixed environment.

Nice-to-have

  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related background.
  • Experience with capacity management practices and workflow tools.
  • Previous experience working in highly regulated business environments or financial services sector.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience across different platforms and functional units of a diversified financial services firm, including exposure to multiple geographies.
